CPR is really important skill to have in the future because you don’t know when an emergency like this will happen. It could be one of your loved ones or a random person. It is important to always be prepared in these type of situations. You don’t have to be a certified instructor to actually teach CPR or perform the Heimlich maneuver. When doing CPR on someone, you always check if the person is unresponsive by saying, “Are you Okay,” and by shaking them on the shoulder.

If there is no response, shout for help and Call 911. While the ambulance is coming start performing CPR. The very first step on performing CPR is to open the airway for the person on the floor. You do this by lifting the chin gently with one hand while pushing down on the forehead with hand to tilt the head back.

In basketball every team needs teamwork to win championships. One player can’t win by him or herself. They need the team ti help. My coach had a saying that a fist makes a team and the fingers make up the players. You you make  fist, no team can break it apart because of how much chemistry you have. Also being a selfish player will never bring you far in life. You want to share the ball with your teammates. Think of others as yourself, like treat them like a team instead of yourself.

In a samurai movie, the villagers were being attacked by barbarians. They stood together like a fist and built walls to protect themselves and prepared for the worst. They cooperated with each other and the end they fought off the invaders. Even during harvest season, the village, mostly girls worked with each other to pick up all the wheat from the ground. Here is a video of top 10 teamwork plays of 2009.

In basketball, every one loses a game once in a while because no body is perfect. Even if you look at the NBA, not a single team in NBA history has ever gone undefeated during an entire season. Even though this is impossible, teams have almost reached perfection, and this proves that hard work really counts. Nonetheless, if you put in the effort and the hard work, this challenge could be obtained. This quote by Michael Jordan exemplifies that not everything in life will come easy or in basketball games. You can’t just take shortcuts in life, you need to take the hard route and put in the effort, because nothing is guaranteed or given on a silver platter in life. Once the heart and effort is there, surely something good will be given to you one day. Michael Jordan stated, “Be true to the game, because the game will be true to you. If you try to shortcut the game, then the game will shortcut you. If you put forth the effort, good things will be bestowed upon you. That’s truly about the game, and in some ways that’s about life too.” Read the rest of this entry »

In Basketball, there are always momentum shifts that help you win the game. The momentum shift are the home court advantage, Four point plays, fast break dunks, and blocks.

Playing in your home court always makes you have an advantage in basketball because more people are cheering and the fans are distracting the other team when shooting free throw. When playing on your home court, you want to take an advantage of it because 90 percent of the time you will win in home games. The crowd always yells, “Defense!” towards the end of the game. This helps the team go hard and to steal the ball. Lastly, cheering makes the players on the court more pumped up to score and as I said before it makes you work harder.

Next are the four point plays. A four point play is when a player shoots at the three line, makes it, gets fouled, and then makes the free throw. That is really a momentum shift in basketball because it pumps you up for the next play like a steal. If its not at your home court, the cheering won’t be as loud but your teammates in the bench would be fired up by motivating the players on the court. That also makes a person want to play harder. Here is a video of a four point play.

Another momentum shift in basketball is fast break dunks. When you steal the ball and dunk it, as i said before makes you pumped for the next play. After getting that dunk will make you si much happier of the game. Also getting a block and then stealing it will most likely change the momentum shift. Changing the momentum in basketball is crucial because you could be down by ten. That momentum shift will cause your team to be pumped up and ready to work harder. Here is another video of a fast break dunk.

In the game of basketball, sharing is caring, and this will allow any group of individuals to succeed against any single player. A team cannot win continuously if one person ball hogs the whole game. Yes, an individual player may be able to win one or two games if they have an extremely good shooting night, but the odds are against that situation. A team with chemistry, like the San Antonio Spurs, have proven this mentality for over a decade. A teammate can’t be selfish or jealous of another player. Teammates need to embrace their individual roles, and know when to pass, or when to shoot the ball. There is a reason why none of the starters on the Spurs team won any individual regular season awards this season, because each one of them is their teams’ MVP at any given night. On my basketball team, we had a player who was always mad whenever he didn’t score much, even when we won the game. In the locker room we were all always joyous about the win and we embraced the winning of the games; however, this teammate for some reason didn’t like that he didn’t score 15/20 points a game. As a result, eventually our coach noticed his negative attitude, and dismissed him from the team. It is essential that all teammates get along, and in order to increase team chemistry, team outings/social events are a must. As a result, the chemistry will increase, and everyone will trust each other more on the basketball court.

Our project for school was an innovation project. My brother and I built a little free library book booth. Here is a link to see what we built, or just scroll down to see what our final project looked like. http://littlefreelibrary.org. Its called FV Book Booth and the purpose was for other students to leave a book behind and take one. And the process keeps repeating. If they needed a book, but don’t have one, they take one, but later they have to put one back. It took about three months of continuous team work to accomplish this perfect project. I worked on this project every day after school, and long hours every weekend weekend and it was really fun. I learned many new things, such as how to properly use a hammer and nail, how to secure blocks of wood together, and how to provide the necessary stability using only wood and nails. Immediately I noticed how difficult this process really was. Its actually hard to do because if you screw it to fast, then the nail will burn and it won’t go into the wood. I also learned how to design the project by actually drawing it on the piece of paper. It was a lot easier than going in blind handed, and just guessing throughout the process. My brother and I knew it would be difficult; however, we acted as a team and supported each other every step of the way. It was painful and sometimes I felt like giving up, but at the end, the hard work paid off. Everybody at school really loved our project and later on, the project changed the culture of the school. I was really proud of our innovation project and I hope to build more in the future.
