In basketball, every one loses a game once in a while because no body is perfect. Even if you look at the NBA, not a single team in NBA history has ever gone undefeated during an entire season. Even though this is impossible, teams have almost reached perfection, and this proves that hard work really counts. Nonetheless, if you put in the effort and the hard work, this challenge could be obtained. This quote by Michael Jordan exemplifies that not everything in life will come easy or in basketball games. You can’t just take shortcuts in life, you need to take the hard route and put in the effort, because nothing is guaranteed or given on a silver platter in life. Once the heart and effort is there, surely something good will be given to you one day. Michael Jordan stated, “Be true to the game, because the game will be true to you. If you try to shortcut the game, then the game will shortcut you. If you put forth the effort, good things will be bestowed upon you. That’s truly about the game, and in some ways that’s about life too.”
When I was watching the first Rocky movie for my first time, I was surprised that he was not upset when he lost to Apollo Greed in his first battle coming from retirement. I thought Rocky was surely going to win the match because he exercised for days, and in most movies the good guys usually win. But there was a plot twist and that surprised me. So this made me think a little, “Why was Rocky not upset? Did he accomplish something?” I think Rocky was not upset because he was glad that he faced the world champion boxer and made it to the fifteenth round. Given that he was only a beginner, it was the first time in history this had happened in boxing. After watching the movie, this really inspired me to always try my best at everything no matter what the outcomes may be. Whether it is bad or good, it is important to remember that, “Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out.” -John Wooden. This quote really inspired me to always try my best at everything. For example at school, basketball, working, etc. At the end of the day, no matter the situation, this quote will always be stuck on my mind, because my high school freshman coach used to always say this quote to our team right before any game.
